City of New Bern Board of Aldermen
The Board of Aldermen consists
of six elected officials elected from voters by ward. They are elected
for a four-year term. The Board meets regularly on the second and
fourth Tuesday of each month in the City Hall Courtroom, 300 Pollock
Street at 7:00 P.M. Public comments can be made as a scheduled public
appearance (scheduled in advance of the meeting) or following a public
hearing during the “Comments from the Public” portion
of the agenda. The Board of Aldermen may hold special meetings at
other times. Please contact the City Clerk regarding business for
the Board of Aldermen.
City Clerk
The City Clerk keeps the minutes of
the Board of Aldermen meetings, maintains official records and documents,
is the Secretary to the Police Civil Service Board, and is responsible
for the sale of cemetery spaces.
Mayor
The Mayor is Lee Wilson Bettis, Jr. He is elected at-large
every four years by all voters of the City. The Mayor presides at
all Board Meetings.
City Manager
Ed Wyatt is the Interim City Manager. He reports directly
to the Board of Aldermen, acts as the administrator to carry out
City policies, and is responsible for running the day-to-day business
of the City.
Executive Assistant
The Executive Assistant is Dawn Heller. She prepares the
agenda for the Board of Aldermen meetings, and handles correspondence
and scheduling for the City Mayor and City Manager. She also serves as the Webmaster.
