Utility Payment Concerns

Time Extensions
Bills are due and payable when received.  The last day to pay the bill without penalty is the due date printed on it.  The following day, a 2.5% late penalty is charged to the account.  Ten days later, delinquency action can begin, including service interruption.  If a residential customer is unable to pay a bill by the due date, the person listed on the account may visit the office to make an agreement for payment of the bill at a later date.  Photo identification is required and payment must, as a general rule, be completed before the next bill would fall due.  If the account holder is unable to visit the office, he or she may authorize someone else to make a payment agreement.  Please call the office at 252-639-2750 for details.

Bank Draft
Automatic bank draft of utility bills is available. Payments are automatically deducted from customer’s bank account on the bill due date.  In order to participate, a customer must have a checking account, fill in and sign the bank draft application*, enclose a voided check and mail all items to the City of New Bern, P.O. Box 1129, New Bern, NC 28563-1129.   After the application is received, it takes an average of two months for the actual draft process to begin.
