Taxes are due on September 1st of each year with interest accruing on
any taxes not collected after January 5th. The interest rates charged
are 2% during the month of January and an additional 0.75% each month thereafter.
The following is a list of accepted payment methods:
By Mail
Payments should be mailed to City of New Bern Tax Collector,
P.O. Box 580498, Charlotte, NC 28258-0498. Include the lower portion of
your bill with the payment.
In Person
Payments are accepted at the Tax Office located on the 1st
Floor of the Dunn Building at 248 Craven Street. The office is open from
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please bring your entire bill when
paying in person.
After-Hours Drop Box
If you prefer to pay your bill in person, but are
unable to do so during regular office hours we have a drop box available.
The drop box is located outside of the Tax Office on the Pollock Street
side of the Dunn Building and may be used at any time. Envelopes are provided
for your convenience. Please include payment stub coupon or at least furnish
account or parcel ID number with payment. The box is opened once daily
at 8 a.m. Therefore, payments put in the box after that time will be credited
to your account the next business day.
By Credit Card, Internet and Telephone
Internet and telephone payments
by credit card are accepted on behalf of the City by Official Payments
Corp. A small convenience fee will be charged for this service. Visit
www.officialpayments.com to make a web payment or call 1-800-272-9829 to
make the payment by phone. You will need to enter Jurisdiction Code 4304
and provide your account number, tax bill year and the amount you want
to pay as well as your credit card information.
Please note all payments entered under jurisdiction code 4304 will
be paid to the City of New Bern. If you want to pay county taxes, you must
hang up and place the call again using the county’s jurisdiction code.
