Abatement of Public Nuisances

The City’s chief building inspector, or his designee, investigates nuisances reported to or discovered by the City.  After the investigation, a determination is made as to whether, in fact, a condition exists to constitute a public nuisance.  If it is determined a condition does exist, the appropriate parties are notified of the nuisance and given a time period within which the condition must be remedied.  If not remedied within that time period, the City may abate the condition and charge the non-complying party for costs related to the abatement.  These costs are collected by the City Tax Collector.
