New Bern Fire-Rescue is the lead agency for the Craven County Safe Kids Coalition, the local chapter under the North Carolina Safe Kids Program. Safe Kids was founded to identify and educate children about injury prevention.

The Fire Prevention Bureau works hand-in-hand with law enforcement personnel, health care providers, child care development, Recreation and Parks, and Emergency Services in developing the Craven County Safe Kids Coalition.

The Safe Kids Coalition sponsors several Child Passenger Safety Seat (CPS) clinics throughout the year. These clinics are designed to offer technical services for the caregiver on how to properly install a child restraint.

Along with CPS clinics, the coalition places emphasis on water safety, bicycle safety, home safety, and firearm safety by holding such events as Bike Rodeos and Marina Day.  The Safe Kids Coalition makes every effort to attend events within Craven County in order to distribute literature that will educate children and adults about injury prevention methods.
