Deputy Chief Weems has been a member of the City of New Bern Fire-Rescue Department since 1987. He has held the positions of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, and Fire Chief in 2002. He holds the following certifications: North Carolina Level II Firefighter, State of North Carolina Level I Hazards Materials (Operations), and North Carolina State Board of Examiners on Sprinkler Systems Maintenance. Deputy Chief Weems has successfully completed course work in Terrorism - Basic Concepts through the National Fire Academy and the University of Illinois, and the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management Incident Command Systems (ICS-101). In addition, he also serves as Safety Coordinator and Disaster Prevention Officer for a major manufacturing corporation in New Bern.
