Providing maintenance, repair and extensions of our street, sidewalk, and
drainage systems is the primary task of this division. With approximately 130
miles of streets, 12 miles of sidewalks, approximately 75 miles of drainage
culverts, tiles, ditches, and canals, the employees of this division are kept
busy year round. Division personnel provide tree trimming and removal, banner
installation (
Banner Request Application), traffic signal
maintenance, and new street, drainage, and driveway (
Driveway
Permit Application) construction inspections.
In an effort to insure the proper flow of storm water and water quality,
this division works daily on drainage ways, street sweeping of all curbed and
guttered streets, and inspection and investigation of any improper dumping
or connections to our storm sewer system. To report any suspected acts which

This division, in partnership with the Craven County Health Department, provides
a mosquito control program through a combination of field investigation, larvaciding,
and spraying, undertaken by trained and licensed employees. We also abate weeded lots and
nuisance properties to eliminate litter and clutter throughout the city.
