Beth Stevenson is a New Bern native. She graduated from West Craven High School in 2001, and attended Elon University in Burlington, N.C.
Stevenson graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast and corporate communications. While at Elon, she traveled and studied abroad in Ireland and Ghana, West Africa.
She holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in Chicago.
During her graduate studies, Stevenson covered neighborhood and city news for Chicago-area newspapers. She rotated as an anchor, producer and reporter in a weekly newscast for WYCC, the public broadcasting station in Chicago.
As part of her journalism training, Stevenson worked as a Capitol correspondent from Washington, D.C. She reported national stories for local television stations in West Virginia and Louisiana. Stevenson worked closely with Capitol Hill press secretaries to coordinate daily access and interviews with Senators and members of the House Representatives. She even had the opportunity to interview West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd, the longest serving Senator in United States history.
Stevenson worked as a reporter for WWAY NewsChannel 3 in Wilmington, N.C., before moving back home to New Bern and accepting the Public Information Officer position with the Police Department. |
