The Employment Security Commission will not accept applications until they have actually announced openings. Once the closing date has been completed, the applications are sent to the City of New Bern's Human Resouce Department, where they are reviewed.
Employment Requirements
Every employment candidate, both police officer or civilian, will be subject to the following:
- Initial Interview: Interviewed by the Chief of Police and/or his represen-tative
- Background Check: Must satisfactorily pass a thorough background investigation
- Psychological Evaluation: Must satisfactorily pass a psychological evaluation
- Physical Examination: Must satisfactorily pass a physical examination
- Drug Screening: Must take a screening test for drugs
- Civil Service Board: Must satisfactorily pass the Civil Service Interview

- Truth Verification: Must pass a Computerized Voice Stress Analysis Test
