Police - Criminal Investigations Section

The Criminal Investigations Section contains units with special areas of expertise. Officers assigned to these units receive extensive training in the latest scientific methods and legal aspects of law enforcement.

Major Case Unit
The MCU is responsible for investigating crimes of a serious nature that require time and specialized expertise. The unit consists of one Sergeant and four Detectives assigned to specialty areas:

Robbery/Homicide
Financial Crimes
Property Crimes
Sex Crimes

In addition, each detective is crossed-trained in a second specialty. Members of the unit work normal business hours but are always available on an as-needed basis

Forensics Unit
The Forensics Unit is responsible for collecting and processing all evidence for the Police Department. Part cop and part scientist, the unit is staffed by one Sergeant and one Detective. They are required to maintain expertise in all the latest scientific methods of latent print development, trace evidence, blood splatter interpretation, alternative light source evidence collection, and documentation of crime scenes. Sections of the Forensics Unit are:

Evidence Processing
Photograph Development/Dark Room
Latent Print Identification/AFIX Computer

Forensics personnel work a regular Monday-Friday schedule but are on call 24 hours a day.

Narcotics/Vice Unit
The Narcotics/Vice Unit consist of one Sergeant and four Detectives charged with investigating all drug and vice violations in the city. Responsibilities include:

Working undercover
Investigating major drug operations
Working with state and federal authorities

In addition, these officers are also active in drug abuse prevention, and give lectures and training sessions to parents, school officials, and civic organizations.
Narcotics/Vice Detectives work various hours and their assignments often takes them out of town.
