The Recruitment Unit is tasked with seeking qualified, honest and dependable applicants to fill vacancies in the department.  In conjuction with Human Resources, recruitment officers work tirelessly to maintain staffing levels.  The unit regularly attends job fairs at military and educational institutions to encourage and attract dedicated workers to join the New Bern Police Department.  The unit is responsible for scheduling interviews and conducting thorough and often time-consuming background checks for all new employees.

The Employment Security Commission will not accept applications until they have actually announced openings. Once the closing date has been completed, the applications are sent to the City of New Bern's Human Resources Department, where they are reviewed.
