The Special Operations Division encompasses a wide variety of duties, that include but are not limited to the following:
Special Events - Preparing Task Orders for major city events like Mumfest, Duffest, the Fourth of July, the Christmas Parade and Flotilla, etc.
Traffic Enforcement Unit - The Traffic Unit consists of a Sergeant and several officers who have received specialized training in traffic accident reconstruction and investigation. In addition, they provide public safety announcements to schools, civic organizations and the general public. Much of the equipment used by the Traffic Unit was provided by grants from the Governor's Highway Safety program.
Street Crimes Unit - The Street Crimes Unit consists of a Sergeant and Detective directly assigned to the group as well as a rotation of police officers who handle specific tasks and duties throughout the city.
Bicycle Patrol Officers - Officers specially trained to patrol neighborhoods and business districts on bicycles.
Police Patrol Boat and Crew - A U.S. Coast Guard certified boat and crew available for water patrol or emergencies
K-9 Police Dogs and Handlers - All K-9's are proficient in drug searches, tracking, and handler protection
