New Bern Parks and Recreation will sponsor a Middle School Dance for New Bern/Craven County middle school students. Students attending schools with ID must present it to enter. This is a lock-in. Once a student is in, they will not be released until the dance concludes unless a parent picks them up!

Cheer America Cheerleading
Young Champions Cheerleading is a fun and exciting cheerleading program for ages 4-14. This class promotes coordination, confidence, poise, artistic expression, competitive spirit and physical fitness. Students will learn the following: fundamentals of pom and cheerleading, dance routines, parade routines, cheers, chants, leaps, jumps, how to perform in front of audiences, and preparations for tryouts for junior high and high school squads. Choices & Consequences---"The Imaginary Friend"
This program targets youth, and parents of youth who are engaging in illegal drug use. The program will discuss the epidemic of teenage drug use in the Craven County School System. The speaker will touch on the consequences of selling drugs and the results of using drugs. Parents are encouraged to attend this program with their teen(s) so they may learn of the tell-tale signs of drug use, and or selling drugs.

Choices & Consequences---"Sexual Awareness"
This program will target teens ages 13-19. The speaker will share information with teens who are engaging in inappropriate sexual behavior. The HIV/STD Counselor from the Craven County Health Department will advise teens on the consequences of unprotected sex. Teens will receive handouts on how certain diseases are transmitted. There will be Q&A period after the presentation. This program is open to the public.

Choices & Consequences---"Penn State or State Pen"?
This program targets teens who are considered by the Craven County School System to be "at-risk". Also welcome are teens whose parents feel thier child is headed toward a life of crime. The guest speakers will be incarcerated teens from Dobbs Juvenile Detention Center in Kinston, NC. The speakers are incarcerated for crimes from selling drugs to murder. This program is open to the public.

Teen Alliance - is now Jr. YAAC
This program is a collaborative effort aimed at fostering youth called “Teens Stepping Up”. Our motto is: “Don’t make decisions about us, without us. The teens will have rap sessions, addressing the problems or issues they are faced with on a daily basis. They also attend the County Board of Commissioners and the Board of Aldermen meetings, Tryon Palace, etc. Middle school students are encouraged to join this exciting group.

Teen Night

Toys for Tots
Applicants wishing to sign up for the annual Toys for Tots drive should come by the center beginning in October. On average we service 150 families. Each applicant must have a valid identification card, a social security card and a social security card for each child. If the applicants sign up at our facility, he/she will not be allowed to sign up at another agency. Toys are provided by the Marine Corps Reserves.

Our Senior Citizens Clubs are very active social clubs for seniors over 55. These groups promote friendships and social outlets for its members while offering training, educational seminars as well as workshops at the district and regional level. Each club meets twice per month locally and once a quarter for district meetings. Senior clubs are members of the North Carolina Association of Senior Citizens Clubs, affiliated with the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Society. |
Golden Age Club
The GAC holds meetings, programs, celebrates special occasions, holidays, anniversaries and birthdays as well as daily and seasonal trips. Refreshments, catered lunches and covered dish lunches are served at meetings.
