GIS is a computer technology that combines mapping and information stored as data to generate maps and reports, and provide a systematic approach to collecting and managing information. The City of New Bern Utilities Department utilizes GIS technology maintain an accurate and readily accessible inventory of the City’s water and sewer infrastructure. The use of GIS helps to increase the efficiency of asset management and field operations by ensuring resources are properly allocated throughout the system.
The GIS systems can also be a very helpful tool for use by engineers and developers in planning for future development projects. ESRI or AutoCad files of the New Bern water and sewer system can be provided to Developers, Engineers and Surveying firms upon request by contacting the GIS Technician.
