    National Avenue House Fire

At about 11:55 a.m. today, New Bern Fire-Rescue was called to 1302 National Avenue for a report of smoke showing from the roof and attic areas.  When firefighters arrived, flames quickly began spreading from the second floor of the home into the attic.  Firefighters were able to control the fire within about 20 minutes to keep it from spreading further.  It took another hour to fully extinguish the flames.  The home is not a total loss and is reparable.  The fire was contained to a second floor bedroom and the attic of the home.

The owner of the home was not there at the time.  Fire investigators have spoken to the owner and since cleared the scene. We understand the owner was having the home remodeled and a work crew was stripping paint when the fire started.  The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental.
