This commission consists of seven (7) members who serve three-year terms, four of whom shall reside within the city's corporate limits, and one of whom shall reside either within the city's corporate limits or within the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ). All members are appointed by the Board of Aldermen. At least three members of the commission shall have had special training or experience in a design field, such as architecture, landscape design, horticulture, city planning, or a closely related field. The commission shall serve the Board of Aldermen in an advisory capacity, and shall recommend to the Board programs which it considers appropriate to enhance and improve the visual quality and aesthetic characteristics of the city.
The commission meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at New Bern Parks & Recreation Administration Office located at 1307 Country Club Road. All meetings are open to the public.
